Hemodialysis: High Flux, High Footprint?
Jane Waugh
Sunshine Coast Australia, Australia
Haemodialysis has a significant environmental impact secondary to the substantial water and power consumption and waste production resulting from each treatment. As the number of people around the world requiring renal replacement therapy grows, it has become more important than ever for nephrologists to consider the environmental impact of the treatments they prescribe and implement initiatives that mitigate that impact whilst continuing to provide exceptional care to their patients. From large-scale infrastructure alteration to making simple changes that reduce waste, every bit counts to reducing the footprint of haemodialysis.
